Before I get started with some amazing reads for today’s Sunday Surf I want to make some announcements regarding the Carnival of Gentle Discipline.  I talked earlier this week about how to continue the cause we started in April.  So here’s the deal: Monthly Gentle Discipline Fair Last Monday of every month (except April and October – where we will have a Carnival of Gentle Discipline) You can submit your post or nominate another blogger for the Gentle Discipline Crème de la Crème Award.  I will also be scouring the blogosphere for posts. There is no deadline – if...

Two Years Ago Today…I became a Mom of 17

May 23, 2008 I got the report that 17 of my 29 eggs (which had been harvested and fertilized the previous day) had been successfully fertilized via inter-cytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI).  This is what I wrote that day: OMG, I’m a mom. My DH is a dad. We have 17, fertilized, unique, individual embryos (zygotes) in petri dishes 40 minutes away. This feeling is so much more overwhelming than I could of imagined. The Opposite...

Continuing the Carnival of Gentle Discipline

Last month’s Carnival of Gentle Discipline was such a success!  Our participants and readers generated so many great ideas for parenting in an unconditional and gentle manner.  I’ve been thinking of ways to keep the momentum going and I’d love to hear your thoughts. I am reluctant to make it a monthly event for two reasons.  1.  It is really time consuming (although we wouldn’t have to do a week-long event) and 2. I don’t want to interfere with the other Carnivals.  I realize that the same pool of bloggers are also often participants in the Carnival of...

About the Name Aellyn

The story of how Aellyn got her name just keeps getting better and better.  Here’s the story so far: I love girl names that start with “A” – I just find them feminine and beautiful.  Almost every name I’ve ever had on my short list (and short lists are veeerrryyy long for infertiles) begins with A or with a vowel at the very least.  For example, I love Ayla, Ava, Alia, etc. as well as Isla, Ivy, Irene, Evalyn, etc.  Aellyn actually came about because I was looking for a name for my World of Warcraft character (Blood Elf Rogue for those of you in the know. ...
