Viable

This week is a big milestone in pregnancy!  I’m 24 weeks (meaning I’ve completed 24 weeks and am in my 25 week) which doctors usually refer to as the point of viability.  Basically if a baby is born now it has a 50% chance of survival – prior to now the numbers are much more abysmal and 22 weeks is the first week that survival is even a possibility (the youngest premie to survive was 21weeks and 6 days). Length of Pregnancy Likelihood of Survival 23 weeks 17% 24 weeks 39% 25 weeks 50% 26 weeks 80% 27 weeks 90% 28-31 weeks 90-95% 32-33 weeks 95% 34+...

Drop-side Cribs, Penises, and Vaccines

Recently, the Consumer Products Safety Commission banned the use and sale of drop-side cribs in the US.  This certainly doesn’t bother me per se.  I’m all for making any child product safer.  However, this flury of news over the drop-side cribs is just so hypocritical!  This is why; Drop-side Cribs vs. Co-sleeping The CPSC is one of the loudest squawkers about the dangers of babies sleeping in adult beds.  Their campaign used the statistic that between 1999 and 2001, 180 babies under two died as a result of being in an adult bed. This statistic is based on an article...

My little girl is 22 months old!  I’ve been so busy with pregnancy and NOT blogging that I haven’t gotten a chance to tell you all how unbelievable fun she is!  It is just indescribable how awesome it is to have a toddler.  I didn’t think anything could get more awesome than babyhood but now she is a PERSON – a walking, talking OPINION!  It is precious (and challenging). Before I get to the good stuff – a tragedy.  Aellyn weaned.  After all my courage went into defying my doctors and nursing through my Frozen Embryo Transfer I completely dried up around 15...

I do, I do, I do Believe in Santa Claus

My good friend and fellow blogger, Code Name:Mama, has a post today entitled: We Don’t Do Santa. My initial reaction is “Oh no!” because I am just head over heels for anything Christmas and that includes Santa Claus!  I even have an “elf on the shelf” type thing called Christopher Pop-in-kins.  So, are Dionna and I completely on opposite sides of this issue? On closer inspection – no.  I’d like to take her post points in reverse order and discuss! Her third point is “I don’t want to condition the amount or quality of gifts on Kieran’s...
